Whether the task at hand is portrait, studio work, travel or documentary photography the new “all-purpose” LEICA - APO-SUMMICRON SL 50mm f2 ASPH. Lens for the Leica SL full-frame mirrorless system. delivers smooth bokeh, sharp and contrasty distortion-free images from corner-to-corner
The SL 50mm f2 ASPH. features twelve elements in ten groups; three are aspherical, used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion for high sharpness; and eight use an anomalous partial dispersion (APD) design to reduce chromatic aberration and colour fringing throughout the aperture range. Quiet dual stepping motors can move the focus elements from their minimum focus distance to infinity in 250ms and the minimum focus distance is 0.35m (13.8"), with a 0.2x maximum magnification.
Designed for full-frame Leica L-mount mirrorless cameras the normal-length SL 50mm f2 ASPH. can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 75mm equivalent focal length.
The lens features a portable form factor, balancing a f/2 maximum aperture with overall weight and size. Weather-sealed design protects against dust and moisture to benefit working in inclement shooting conditions. Additionally, a water-repellent AquaDura coating has been applied to the exposed elements.
Featuring a new manual focusing ring construction concept were a ring magnet with alternating polarization is embedded into the manual focusing ring alongside a sensor that monitors the magnetic field. The magnetic field changes its polarity when the ring is turned and the sensor reads the data to precisely drive the focus based on the rotational speed and angle. Photographers can quickly access the finest manual focus micro-adjustments when they need it, right at the reach of their fingertips.”
Employing extremely powerful and robust stepping motors the entire focusing throw can be travelled through completely in only around 250 milliseconds ensuring fast and reliable autofocus. The dual stepping motor autofocus design also benefits from being near-silent, suitable for both photo and video applications.
Built after the same promise as of Leica's other lenses "the maximum aperture is a working aperture" and stopping down is a creative imaging tool the LEICA - APO-SUMMICRON SL 50mm f2 ASPH. lens offers nearly distortion-free images, brilliant contrast, natural skin tones, consistent sharpness and soft transitions into the bokeh.
The lens features twelve complex lens elements arranged in ten groups to contribute to superb image quality. Spherical aberrations and distortion has been reduced by the use of three aspherical elements while eight use anomalous partial dispersion (APD) design to reduce chromatic aberration throughout the aperture range for increased colour accuracy and clarity.
All glass elements in an optical imaging system refract light in certain colours to a different
extent. This leads to not all rays of light from a multi-coloured subject being focused at a single
imaging point – the result of this is chromatic aberration.
In the new APO-Summicron-SL 50 mm f/2 ASPH. these chromatic
aberrations are minimised by apochromatic correction using high-quality glass with anomalous partial dispersion
that push even the innovative manufacturing methods of the Leica Factory to the limits of the technically possible.
This lens features a portable form factor, balancing the f/2 maximum aperture with overall weight and size. Weather-sealed design protects against dust and moisture to benefit working in inclement shooting conditions.
