Identical in form to the first fp, and maintaining accessories compatibility, the fp L is small enough to disappear into a rig for filmmaking uses or serve as a highly portable option for travel photography. The improved sensor and focusing greatly benefits photography use while also maintaining the same impressive video recording capabilities for a professional cinema workflow.
The new 61MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor suits high-resolution stills shooting and up to UHD 4K video recording with 12-bit raw output when recording externally. The BSI design of the sensor achieves low noise and offers a sensitivity range up to ISO 25600 for working in low-light conditions. The sensor's design also now includes on-chip phase-detection autofocus, which greatly improves focusing speed and accuracy, especially when tracking moving subjects.
Beyond sensor upgrades, the fp L also introduces the ability to receive continuous power via USB-C to benefit extended recording times, such as when shooting time-lapses, extended clips, or when using the camera as a webcam. The sleek and minimal design of the camera body incorporates a rear 3.15" 2.1m-dot touchscreen LCD and the fp L is also compatible with the EVF-11 Electronic Viewfinder; an optional auxiliary EVF for clear eye-level monitoring. A single SD card slot is available for internal file saving and the fp L also supports recording directly to USB-C-connected hard drives, benefitting raw video recording and other large file size recording applications.
61 Megapixels Full-Frame BSI CMOS Sensor with Bayer-style colour filter array
The SIGMA fp L features a Bayer sensor with approximately 61 effective megapixels, higher than any other SIGMA camera before it. In addition to images with fine details, the fp L is capable of creating images that are high-definition and rich in colour, thanks to its ultra-high pixel count and SIGMA's experience in developing cameras with a Foveon sensors.
Free of colour artifacts, the Foveon sensor legacy was also behind the decision that the fp L should have a low-pass filter to reduce moiré to minimum levels. The use of a low-pass filter was a choice that made sense for a camera with an ample megapixels such as the SIGMA fp L.
The BSI design of the sensor further helps to achieve accurate colours, smooth tones, and reduced noise when working in difficult lighting conditions. The sensitivity range from ISO 100-25600 suits working in a variety of lighting conditions and the dual base ISO configuration further ensures clean results.
Diverse aspect ratios
In STILL mode, you have seven aspect ratios to choose from. You can either choose one that suits your mood and preference, or try out one that you don't normally use to discover a new framing and style. The SIGMA fp series' diverse aspect ratio will bring you possibilities to experience something that may change the way you see things.
New colour modes | Powder Blue & Duotone.
Characterized by its fresh blue tones, Powder Blue has a bright and clear feel to it, while Duotone turns the colours of an image into an effective two-colour gradient. These two new colour modes will give you a greater range and freedom to your still and video image creation with the fp series.
Cinemagraph / Fill Light / Colour mode
In addition to a total of 15 colour modes to choose from, the SIGMA fp series features a number of functionalities such as Cinemagraph, which is animated GIF that is a hybrid between photography and video, and Fill Light, which is SIGMA's special light control function.
Hybrid Autofocus | Contrast detection autofocus + Phase detection autofocus
In addition to high-precision contrast AF, the SIGMA fp L features fast image area phase-detection AF. This hybrid AF allows users to enjoy smooth autofocus that is high-precision, fast, and excellent at tracking a moving subject, whether they are shooting stills or video.
Transform SIGMA fp L to a webcam with just a USB cable.
By simply connecting it to a PC via USB, a SIGMA fp L camera can be used as a webcam. It will bring a stunning, full-frame image quality to live streaming and online communication including video conferencing.
- When using it as a webcam, the fp L will work as an audio and video input device while getting its power supply from the PC.
Share Settings via QR Codes
With the fp L, you can save custom camera settings as QR code image data, so you can load many patterns of settings very quickly or share custom settings with other Sigma FP L users, 'on set' or via social media.

Shutter shock, sound, and lags: these are disadvantages of mechanical shutters. The SIGMA fp L is designed to minimize them. The absence of a mechanical shutter not only makes the SIGMA fp's camera structure simpler, which in turn improves its reliability, it also allows for greater precision where even the tiniest shake needs to be eliminated or the shutter-sound in sensitive situations.

For raw video data, the SIGMA fp series supports 12-bit CinemaDNG external recording. With 4K UHD/24fps recording, it produces video data that can be used even in filmmaking. It also supports Blackmagic RAW and ProRes RAW over HDMI recording, so you can choose one according to your workflow. For the operation system, the SIGMA fp series features a dedicated interface that supports commonly used cinema cameras, which means it can be taken straight to video production settings.

Custom frame lines
When shooting with different aspect ratios in mind, you can use a frame guide that's useful when you decide the composition. The fp series now supports custom frame lines, where you can add a given aspect ratio or absolute pixel dimensions. It will prove useful in filmmaking where it may be necessary to cover different formats from movie, television, smartphone, etc.
A Selection of external viewfinders
You have a choice of two viewfinders for the fp series: the EVF-11, a high-definition and small-sized electronic viewfinder with an organic EL panel, or the LVF-11, an optical LCD viewfinder that allows you to see the view in a large LCD screen to check how it looks on the optical axis.

You can make a screenshot of any screen display on fp series cameras, including live view and menus. You can keep a record of the shooting situations and the camera setting in a single image.
Save / Load Settings via QR Codes
You can batch save complicated settings such as director's viewfinder and frame guide using a QR code. By storing QR codes, you can load one you need for a particular project instantly.
