It mounts to the front of your camera where it channels and diffuses light from the built-in flash. The light is projected in a ring around the lens, a common trick for close-up imaging, at distances from 0.8 to 11.8 inch. There is also a light intensity adjustment lever with high or low output settings, with a 1.4-stop difference between them, in order to work with a range of subject matter.
