Similarly versatile, the lens uses NANO USM technology that combines a fast, stills-optimised ring-type Ultrasonic Motor and a smooth, silent video-optimised Stepping Motor for all-around focusing performance that benefits multimedia image-makers. This dual-purpose AF motor delivers notably faster performance across the zoom range for more responsive shooting from near to far. Additionally, supporting both photo and video recording, an Image Stabiliser system compensates for up to four stops of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting at slower shutter speeds.
Beyond its performance, this lens features a unique Lens Information Display that shows focus distance, focal length, and stabiliser settings on a top-facing screen for easy reference. To benefit optical performance, the lens' construction utilises one Ultra Low Dispersion (UD) element to control chromatic aberrations and colour fringing for improved clarity. Additionally, a nine-blade diaphragm produces pleasing bokeh for shallow depth-of-field images..
