The battery grip for the Panasonic GH5 allows increased flexibility for GH5 users.
By allowing the addition of extra batteries, it greatly increases the length of time that one can shoot on the GH5 with - this is especially important when using accessories that draw extra power from the camera battery, like the Panasonic XLR1 audio adapter unit.
In addition to it's battery capabilities, the grip also allows for better ergonomics when taking photos in portrait orientation.
Adding a number of extra physical buttons and dials, the grip also includes a joystick that controls AF position, menu navigation or can be assigned as multiple customizable function buttons.
This allows for all important buttons and functions to be accessible when holding the camera in portrait orientation.
