The Nikon ZR Cinema Camera with NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.4 Lens Kit. Nikon has officially launched the ZR, a compact full-frame cinema camera co-developed with RED Digital Cinema. As the smallest model in the Z CINEMA series, the ZR weighs just 540g and is built for high-end filmmaking in a lightweight, rugged magnesium alloy body. It features internal 6K RAW recording (R3D NE, N-RAW, ProRes RAW HQ), RED-curated colour science, and native 32-bit float audio with OZO Audio support—all designed to eliminate the need for bulky rigs. The camera includes dual base ISO (800/6400), 15+ stops of dynamic range, and advanced autofocus with 273 points and deep-learning subject recognition across nine categories.
For cinematic output, the ZR offers nine RED Imaging Recipes, real-time LUT previews, waveform and histogram monitoring, and a configurable shutter angle for authentic motion blur. It supports seven video formats, including 12-bit RAW in REDWideGamutRGB and Log3G10 profiles, and integrates RED’s R3D NE codec for the first time in a Nikon camera. The ZR is also cloud-ready via Frame.io and NX MobileAir, enabling direct uploads from the field.
Designed for modern workflows, the ZR includes HDMI-CEC tally light compatibility, USB-C connectivity, and ON AIR/PREVIEW indicators, making it ideal for studio, livestreaming, and multi-cam setups. Its efficient heat dissipation allows over two hours of silent recording without overheating. The Z mount system supports a wide range of lenses, including adapted third-party options.
