Advanced Autofocus System

The SL3-S sensor boasts 779 autofocus points, which is three times more than the SL-2S and over two times more than the SL3. The combination of Contrast Detection AF and the 779-point phase-detection system affords quicker, more intelligent object detection and tracking for working with moving subjects, especially when shooting continuously up to 30 fps. Tracking, in general, has never been easier for Leica users.

Unlimited 6K Open Gate Internal Recording

This system's video capabilities were meant to match its photo counterpart, with unlimited 6K Open Gate internal recording. The user gains new creative possibilities when it comes to postproduction while using the full size of the sensor in its native 3:2 ratio. Additionally, this upgrade offers:

Leica Content Credentials

The SL3-S is the first camera in the SL system with Leica Content Credentials and dedicated CAI-compliant hardware. You can have each image signed with tamperproof metadata and receive access to verification tools that provide content, production, and editing process history.

A surprising combination of compactness, speed, and versatility, the Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 28-70mm f/2.8 ASPH. It is a sleek standard zoom for L-mount mirrorless cameras. Trading a bit of reach on the wide end of the zoom, compared to a conventional 24-70mm lens, this zoom instead manages to be especially small and lightweight while still offering a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture for excellent low-light performance and depth of field control. This portable zoom is ideal for everyday shooting and a range of subjects, including everything from landscapes to portraits to travel scenes.

The portable lens weighs 0.58 kg and measures 7.36 x 10.16 cm; this is more than a 0.22 kg weight savings compared to the Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-70mm f/2.8 lens while also being nearly an inch shorter.

Lens housing is built from magnesium and aluminium alloys and has a simple, minimalist design with dual control rings to adjust both focus and zoom positions.

Dust- and splash-proof design for working in inclement conditions, and an Aqua-Dura hydrophobic coating has been applied to the front and rear elements.
