A newly developed 35mm full-frame back-illuminated CMOS image sensor with approx. 33 effective megapixels and the latest generation BIONZ XR flagship-class processing engine, lets the Sony A7 IV Body realize flagship-class still image quality with advanced AI-based autofocus at an impressive 10 fps continuous shooting rate plus evolved real-world movie features including 10bit 4:2:2 Colour, S-Log3/S-Cinetone and full-frame 7K oversampled 4K30p internal video recording.
Improving on its popular predecessor A7 III, the new A7 IV receives the updated 759 phase-detection AF point 4D Focus system of the Sony A1 thus reducing the time required to refocus by 30% compared to the A7III. The newly developed subject recognition algorithm uses colour, pattern and subject distance data for more tenacious real-time tracking and Real-Time Eye AF now supports birds as well as Human/Animal mode. 5-axis optical in-body image stabilisation has also been improved with up to 5.5-steps of shutter speed advantage.
With the A7 mark IV, Sony has yet again proved that they take video content creation seriously. The A7 IV is capable of 4K60p Video Recording (16:9) with a 1.5x crop using 4.6K Oversampling and 4K30p Full-frame Recording (16:9) without crop using 7K Oversampling, both modes support shooting with 10/8bit, Long GOP/All-I and H.264/H.265. S-Cinetone Picture Profile offers more expressive depth and natural skin tones while S-Log3 enables 15+ stops of latitude to protect high-light details in your footage for a natural roll-off.
A new Focus Map overlay lets you easily visualize depth of field quickly during shooting with a coloured overlay showing behind the focus, within focus and in front of focus. While AF Assist with flexible 7-step AF Transition Speed and 5-step AF Subject Shift Sensitivity supports focus transitions when using AF.
Focus breathing can be a distraction for your viewers with the frame jumping around during focusing. Sony A7 Mark IV uses Breathing Compensation with supported lenses to combat this keeping a consistent angle of view when focusing.
Other features that make the A7 IV the content creators dream camera include a bright and clear 3.69 million dot EVF, a 3.0-inch 1.03 million dot Vari-angle LCD screen that is fully adjustable, dual card slots (CFE-Type A/UHS II + UHS II), a Digital Multi-Interface Shoe supporting Digital Audio, USB 3.2 (Gen 2) Connectivity with up to 10Gbps transfer and USB-PD Charging, Mic input + Headphone output ports, Wi-Fi 2.4GHz/5GHz plus Imaging Edge Mobile Connection via Bluetooth, and easy to use 4K 15p & FHD 60p Live Streaming with internal recording via UVC (USB Video Class) /UAC (USB Audio Class) streaming function.
Evolved movie technology taken directly from real-world movie production ensures high image quality and high sound quality for the content shot with the A7 IV.
4K 60p recording in Super35 format with full pixel readout without binning and smooth 2.5x (max.) slow-motion imagery at 4K resolution provides new creative outlets for you filmmaking needs. While full-frame 7K oversampled 4K 30p recording with full pixel readout without binning delivers expressive full-frame video with more detail.
Optical Active Mode image stabilisation ensures smooth footage without image quality compromise and the A7 IV's digital audio interface delivers clearer audio recordings with minimal hassle when using the optional ECM-B1M Directional Mic or the ECM-W2BT Wireless Lav.
In addition to the evolution of AF expressiveness, Real-time Eye AF can be used in movies.
UVC (USB Video Class) /UAC (USB Audio Class) streaming function provides easy connection and supports video & sound distribution in Real-time. This enables the Alpha 7 IV to function as a high-performance web camera when connected to a computer or smartphone via USB. A USB function selection menu will pop up on the camera display when the camera is connected to a computer.
The Tamron 17-50mm F/4 Di III VXD for Sony FE. This groundbreaking lens zooms from 17mm ultra wide-angle to 50mm standard, the world’s first with such a dynamic zoom range for full-frame mirrorless cameras. TAMRON’s new 17-50mm F4 for Sony mirrorless cameras is a wide-angle zoom with a constant F4 aperture covering ultra wide-angle to standard focal lengths, a zoom range ideal for both still photography and video recording. This lens achieves excellent optical performance across the entire zoom range, with crispness from edge-to-edge. The lens also incorporates VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism with superior quietness and agile performance and achieves high-speed and high-precision autofocus. Additionally, the physical length of the lens does not change while zooming. It’s the perfect lens for taking still photos and is also ideal for video shooting, in part since it’s easy to balance even when fitted to a gimbal stabilizer or other equipment. The excellent close-range shooting performance provides an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.19m (7.5in) at the wide end and 0.3m (11.8in) at the tele end. This lets users get closer to the subject to capture one-of-a-kind photos in a broad range of situations. The ideal “walk around” lens, the new 17-50mm F4 zoom offers great portability and convenience and makes it possible to shoot a variety of content, both still images and video, from sweeping landscapes to snapshots, all without switching lenses.
