The Canon EOS R6 Mirrorless Camera Body is the fully featured full frame mirrorless camera for high end enthusiast photographers with 20 frames per second stills shooting, 20MP still images, 100% autofocus frame coverage, 4K 60p movies, Dual SD UHS-II Card slots and wide-ranging sensitivity to ISO 102400. It also sports 5-axis in-body image stabilization to help steady shots when working in low-light conditions.
The EOS R6 boasts the same top shooting speed as the R5, capable of cranking out 20 frames per second when shooting electronically or 12 frames via the mechanical shutter. It also shares the same amazing autofocus tech, built around Canon’s Deep Learning AF – the AI-originated algorithm that enables the camera to track eyes, faces and heads on human subjects. It also has Animal AF that can track dogs, cats and birds in flight by recognizing their eyes, faces and bodies one-uping even cameras like the 1DX III professional DSLR. And along with the R5, this body is the first to feature the next generation of Canon’s core autofocus tech, Dual Pixel AF II for quick, smooth, and intelligent focusing using 1053 selectable points that cover the entire field of view.
It may sit below the R5 launched at the same time, but in some regards the EOS R6 actually outperform its bigger brother. Low light performance is superior on the R6 compared to the R5, thanks to the fewer pixels on the image sensor so if you mainly shoot sports and action it may be the better choice. The standard ISO range covers 100-102,400 but unlike the R5 it is expandable to 50-204,800, and it can autofocus down to -6EV.
For the everyday shooter with high demands, the Canon EOS R6 is a versatile tool to meet the photo and video requirements of a contemporary imaging workflow. Complementing its imaging capabilities, the R6 features a bright 0.5" 3.69m-dot electronic viewfinder, with a high refresh rate, and the rear vari-angle 3.0" 1.62m-dot touchscreen LCD accommodates vlogging and high and low angle photography.
The new 20 Megapixels sensor of the Canon EOS R6 offers amazing resolution for large prints, landscape and architecture photography or for any photographer that likes to refine their compositions when editing. In combination with the new DIGIC X processor, the camera offers both high resolution and high speed with up to 20 fps capture.
With Dual SD Card Slots, instant backup is possible by writing direct to both cards at the same time, or record one file type to one card and another type to the 2nd card.
Canon EOS R6 Burst Speeds*Except when using EF-S lenses. With Full Aperture. Speed may change due to shutter speed, aperture changes, subject, darkness and type of lens.
**Burst shooting speed varies in up to 3 stages, depending on the battery type used, the number of batteries, remaining charge, lens, temperature, Wi-Fi setting, whether you are using battery grip or WFT unit, DC coupler or USB power adapter. The maximum burst speed may also decrease due to shutter speed, aperture, flash usage, flicker reduction processing, subject conditions and brightness.
Shoot at up to 20 frames per second with full autofocus and auto exposure tracking support.
Incredible low light shooting capabilities, up to 102,400 ISO. Achieve low luminance autofocus. Canon EOS’s first camera to offer Minimum EV for AF of EV-6.53.
4K 60p movie recording and Full HD 120p. Flexible movie shooting with a range of compression options and frame rates to fit your vision.
World’s best Image Stabilization 8-stops* with Coordinated Control IS. 5-Axis In-Body Image Stabilizer (IBIS). Image Stabilization is now possible when using non stabilized lenses. Combined with selected Canon RF lenses, IBIS works in tandem with a lens-based Image Stabilizer to deliver coordinated control and reduce camera-shake blur.
*Among all interchangeable-lens digital cameras as of July 2020 based on the CIPA standard and RF24-105mm at a focal distance of 105mm. Depending on the time of purchase your lens firmware may need to be updated.
The World’s fastest AF focusing speed of 0.05 seconds. 100% autofocus (AF) frame coverage with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II. Track subjects to every corner of the frame with 100% x 100% AF frame coverage.
The updated Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system of the EOS R6 features 1053 selectable focusing points, which cover approximately 100% of the image frame for wide and even coverage. This focusing system offers smooth and fast focusing performance and also advanced AF subject tracking for human eye, face and head detect and animal eye, face and whole body detect.
This system integrates two separate photodiodes within each pixel to provide a broad and dense network of phase-detection gathering elements across a majority of the image sensor to reduce focus hunting for faster, more direct control of focus placement.
When shooting video, a Movie Servo AF mode offers smooth and natural focusing when changing from different subjects or different distances within the scene, as well as the ability to specify tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority.
Benefited by the Touch AF system, rack focus is possible simply by touching elements within the scene on the touchscreen in order to change focus in an intuitive manner. Subject tracking in movies is also heightened due to the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system's ability to recognize subjects and maintain focus when working within changing or cluttered scenery.
1053 AF zones ensure complete frame coverage for the camera to select automatically. In manual mode, there are up to 5940 user-selectable AF point positions to choose from!
*Applicable when the subject frame is shown while using Face+Tracking and RF lenses (except RF600mm F11 IS STM, RF800mm F11 IS STM and Extender RF). When using EF lenses or Extenders (excluding some current products) some scenes and subjects may not be applicable.
The Canon EOS R6, like its big brother the EOS R5, can when paired with the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, achieve autofocus in just 0.05 seconds! Making the camera one of the fastest full-frame cameras available when it comes to autofocus and enabling any sports or action photographer to enter into Canon's RF mirrorless camera system.
Canon's intelligent tracking recognition in the EOS R6 camera offers one of the most advanced human subject detection autofocus systems on the market with Eye, Face and Head detect.
If you are photographing animals* such as dogs, cats and birds you also get eye, face and whole body detect.
*For some subjects, animal detection is not available, and in other cases subjects other than dogs, cats or birds may be detected as animals.
The refined body design of the EOS R5 incorporates four distinct control dials across the body for intuitive tactile control and a joystick controller is used on the back of the camera for fast and intuitive focus point selection and menu navigation. The durable, weather-sealed body design is built to handle tough working conditions and inclement weather.
Dual SD UHS-II memory card slots are featured for flexible storage needs.
Canon has put a responsive electronic viewfinder (EVF) with 3.69m-dot resolution in the EOS R6 which promises smooth performance when switching between using the monitor and the EVF while also being great for burst shooting. The viewfinder supports brightness, colour tone and fine-tuning of colour tone adjustments as well as having optimised EVF optics.
The inclusion of a fully-articulated Vari-angle LCD monitor makes it easier to shoot from high and low angles or shoot in portrait orientation. An articulated screen like this is a must for any video content creator looking to vlog with the Canon EOS R5 or any creator working alone creating presentation pieces in front of camera.
With the EOS R5 and R6 Canon also introduces a new battery the LP-E6NH for longer battery life with around 14% increased battery life. It also keeps backwards compatibility with older LP-E6 style batteries.
Additionally, the EOS R6 also supports the same optional BG-R10 Battery Grip as the R5 for even longer battery life and improved comfort when shooting for an extended time, in portrait orientation, or with longer telephoto lenses.
