The sensor and processor of the Nikon D610 Digital SLR enable high image quality with a wide dynamic range and high signal-to-noise ratio that produces both smooth color and tonal gradations with low noise levels for enhanced overall clarity. These two technologies also combine to provide a wealth of speed throughout the D610, including a continuous shooting rate of 6 fps and a quiet shooting mode that allows the camera to record sequential imagery without the mirror raising or lowering.

A Multi-CAM 4800 AF sensor is integrated into the camera's design and produces fast autofocus speeds using a 39-point array to precisely acquire focus in a wide array of lighting conditions. Seven of the central AF points are compatible with f/8 or faster lenses, which greatly enhances the autofocus performance with longer, telephoto lenses used in combination with teleconverters. When recording movies or working in live view, a contrast-detection focusing method works to continuously deliver accurate focus with subject-tracking and face-detection capabilities using the full-time servo mode.

Full HD 1080p video is supported up to 25 fps (PAL) in the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format and manual control over the ISO, shutter speed, and aperture is possible for optimized control over the look and feel of movies. Uncompressed recording is possible with an optional external recorder connected via the HDMI port and, additionally, both headphone and microphone ports are available for refined control over recorded sound. Extending the D610's connectivity, an accessory terminal is compatible with the optional WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter and GP-1A GPS Unit for wireless image sharing, remote camera control, and geotagging capabilities.

FX format CMOS sensor
The Nikon D610’s innovative FX-format CMOS sensor, image-processing engine and lenses work together to deliver the exceptional quality you demand in your stills and videos. NIKKOR lenses help draw out the sensor’s full potential, achieving exquisite sharpness with minimized aberrations, all while rendering spectacular bokeh for a three-dimensional look that is more faithful to what your eyes see.

EXPEED 3 Image Processor
The D610 uses Nikon’s EXPEED 3, the same image-processing engine found in the D4 and D800 series, meaning it can swiftly manage the large data files that an FX-format sensor produces.

Picture Control
During image processing, Nikon’s original Picture Control technology makes it simple to tailor the individual look and feel of your stills and videos by fine-tuning their parameters using preset options. And with enhanced Auto White Balance accuracy for common shooting scenarios, the D610 reproduces colours as natural and precise as they look in reality.

Continuous shooting
The D610 boasts even faster continuous shooting than its predecessor, at up to approx. 6 fps in both FX and DX formats.

Qc shutter-release mode
The D610’s new Qc (quiet continuous) shutter-release mode reduces mirror noise while still offering up to 3 fps, affording maximum discretion.

7 focus points compatible with f/8
The D610’s AF system gives you absolute confidence when capturing moving subjects by using 39 strategically placed focus points, with 9 powerful cross-type sensors in the center to allow further accuracy even when light and contrast are low. Most impressively, you can still use 7 active AF points when the maximum effective aperture is as slow as f/8, with a telephoto lens attached to a 2x teleconverter – a great benefit for sports and wildlife shooters.

100% frame coverage
Bright and clear, the D610’s glass prism optical viewfinder covers approx. 100% of the image area, an invaluable asset for accurate framing. The approx. 0.7x* magnification – the same as the D4 and D800/D800E – means it’s easy to see all the visual elements in the viewfinder, while the optional grid lines display enhances composition for landscape and architecture photography.

Dual SD card slots
The D610’s dual SD card slots provide multiple options for recording and storing large files: you can write RAW and JPEG data to separate cards, copy from one card to another, and select a slot according to the remaining capacity during video shooting. The slots are UHS-I compatible, and can transfer data faster thanks to the camera’s EXPEED 3 image-processing engine.

Dependable body and shutter
You needn’t hesitate about taking the D610 with you into difficult situations. The camera’s rugged body utilizes a durable magnesium alloy for the top and rear frames, and its weather sealing gives it the same dust- and moisture-proof reliability as the D800 series. The shutter has been tested for 150,000 cycles with the shutter unit and driving mechanism actually loaded on the body, so you can shoot as long as your creativity demands.

Built-in flash to trigger remote Speedlights
The D610’s built-in flash makes Advanced Wireless Lighting with Nikon Speedlights even faster and simpler. Turn the flash to commander mode and you can wirelessly trigger your remote off-camera Speedlights (SB-700 and SB-910) with ease, producing creative and comprehensive lighting that’ll go wherever your imagination takes it.

Full HD D-Movie and time-lapse feature
The D610 can record 1080p Full HD video at 25p (PAL) in H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, with a choice of both FX- and DX-based movie formats, plus comprehensive audio controls including a dedicated stereo headphone jack. It enables you to watch simultaneous live view output on external monitors and record uncompressed video via HDMI. You can also create time-lapse photography through simple menu operations, with no need for elaborate calculations and editing.
