The Canon EOS 1DX Mark III Body Only is simply put, photography without limits. Built as Canon's ultimate speed, low-light and precision machine this camera is the perfect tool for sports, wildlife and other dynamic photography, putting you and your gear at the limit of what's possible.
Designed as the flagship of the EOS system, the 1D X Mark III is characterized by its refined processing capabilities and distinct speed to suit both photo and video applications. Featuring a newly designed 20.1MP full-frame CMOS sensor and updated DIGIC X image processor, this camera is capable of continuous shooting rates up to 16 fps with the optical viewfinder or 20 fps in live view, with a 1000-shot buffer when shooting raw+JPEG. Complementing this speed is an impressive native sensitivity range from ISO 100-102400, that can be expanded to ISO 50-819200, to suit working in a variety of lighting conditions. Also benefitting the speed is the EOS iTR AF X autofocus system, which uses 191 points for quickly and accurately acquiring focus. It also enables Face Tracking and Head Detection AF functions, which use Deep Learning Technology, to maintain critical focus on moving subjects. Additionally, when working in live view, Dual Pixel CMOS AF uses 3869 manually selectable points and provides a smooth, natural focusing quality akin to the way a camcorder acquires focus.
In addition to high performance stills shooting, the 1D X Mark III is also highly competent for video, with the ability to record DCI 4K content internally at up to 60 fps with 10-bit, 4:2:2 colour, as well as Full HD at 120 fps and raw 5.5K (5472 x 2886) at 60 fps. Complementing recording is Movie Digital IS, manual focus peaking, and Focus Guide, and, also, Canon Log Gamma can be used for greater color grading control in post.

Deep Learning AI Autofocus
Whether you shoot with the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III’s sensational optical viewfinder or using its generous 3.1-inch touchscreen, you can’t help but notice the speed, accuracy and precision of its revolutionary AF system. Deep-learning algorithms have been programmed to identify different sports, while Face and Eye detection has been joined by advanced tracking ability that tracks athletes even when they’re wearing goggles or a helmet.
No matter how fast the action moves, the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III moves faster, adjusting focus to give you critical focus when you need it.
EOS iTR AF X Autofocus and Dual Pixel CMOS AF
Working in conjunction with the redeveloped imaging system, a refined autofocus system, EOS iTR AF X, uses 191 points to quickly and accurately acquire focus on subjects. Of the 191 points, 155 are cross-type points that excel in various lighting conditions and provide increased accuracy on a variety of subject types.
When recording video or shooting in live view, a Dual Pixel CMOS AF system is employed that features 3869 manually selectable autofocus points, with 525 automatic positions. This focusing system offers smooth and fast focusing performance in a similar manner to how a camcorder acquires focus.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF integrates two separate photodiodes within each pixel to provide a broad and dense network of phase-detection gathering elements across a majority of the image sensor to reduce focus hunting for faster, more direct control of focus placement. When working with still imagery, this focusing system works to acquire focus quickly and accurately, making it ideally suited to shooting and tracking moving subjects so that critical focus is attained with each shot. When shooting video, a Movie Servo AF mode offers smooth and natural focusing when changing from different subjects or different distances within the scene, as well as the ability to specify tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority.
Benefited by the Touch AF system, rack focus is possible simply by touching elements within the scene on the touchscreen in order to change focus in an intuitive manner. Subject tracking in movies is also heightened due to the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system's ability to recognize subjects and maintain focus when working within changing or cluttered scenery.
Really Fast | Continuous shooting at up to 20fps
The Canon EOS-1D X Mark III can capture up to 20 full-frame 20.1 megapixel images every second when shooting in live view mode, using either its mechanical shutter to capture motion faithfully or an electronic shutter for completely silent shooting.
When using the camera’s optical viewfinder the continuous shooting rate is 16fps – an extraordinary achievement for a DSLR camera, and one made possible by Canon’s expertise in mechanical engineering. direct drive motors are used to drive the reflex mirror up and down, returning it to its resting position swiftly, accurately and the minimal ‘mirror bounce’.
Remarkable Image Quality | 20.1MP Full-Frame Sensor and DIGIC X Image Processor
Redesigned 20.1MP full-frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC X image processor yield impressive image quality along with notable speed and sensitivity.
Compared with its predecessors, the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III delivers increased dynamic range, more advanced noise-reduction at all ISO sensitivities and faster read out of imaging data. Native ISO sensitivity now ranges from ISO 100 to ISO 812,900 and is expandable to an astonishing ISO 50-812,600, setting new standards in low-light performance.
The Canon EOS-1D X Mark III also features a Gaussian low pass filter (LPF), which reduces moiré more effectively than standard LPF designs while also delivering a sharper, more detailed image for an overall clean image quality.
A filmmaking machine
When it comes to video, the EOS-1D X Mark III fits in to virtually any workflow. Capture full frame 4K 60p, or 5.5K RAW footage that opens up new creative possibilities.
4K recording and 5.5K Raw
Capture oversampled DCI 4K/60p video internally using the full width of the sensor, so your lenses see the same as when you’re shooting stills. The Canon EOS-1D X Mark III can shoot in 17:9 DCI or 16:9 UHD aspect ratios and record the results using either the H.264 codec or as 10-bit H.265 codec when using Canon Log. Footage captured in this way is intentionally low in contrast, so it’s easier to colour grade in post-production.
The Canon EOS-1D X Mark III can also record 5.5K Raw video footage internally to its CFexpress cards, giving filmmakers unprecedented image quality. Expect more natural colour gradation and more dynamic range, letting you see detail in highlights and shadows that are 12 stops apart.
Full HD recording with Dual Pixel AF is also available, at frame rates up to 120fps. Ideal for quarter-speed slow-motion effects.
When shooting video, Dual Pixel AF provides smooth focusing on objects selected by tapping the camera screen (or the screen of a smart device running the Canon Camera Connect app).* Faces and other objects can be tracked around the frame and the camera will smoothly re-focus to keep them sharp. You can even select which eye the focusing system should prioritise, or leave the camera to select the nearest to the camera.
*Dual Pixel AF operates in all modes except for non crop 4K or RAW at 60p/50p recording.
When focusing manually, focus peaking identifies which areas of the scene are in focus by highlighting them with a coloured outline. This also shows depth of field by highlighting areas that will look sharp at the selected aperture.
Movie Digital IS provides highly effective five-axis image stabilisation when you’re filming handheld – smoothing out shake caused by camera movement. An enhanced mode detects and corrects for the kind of motion encountered when walking with the camera – when tracking a moving subject, for instance.
Video captured in 4K can be used to generate 8.8 megapixel still images. Just replay the footage in question on the back of the camera in slow motion and use the shutter button to extract a still frame. This is a great approach for fast-moving subjects, which can now be shot in 4K 60p with still frames extracted afterwards.
The Most Intuitive and Durable EOS-1D X Yet
The EOS-1D X Mark III is designed to be tough, reliable and intuitive – as close to invisible as a camera can be.
It starts where it always begins for EOS-1D series cameras: an all-metal, magnesium-alloy body, backed up by an all-metal mirror box structure. This is a massively strong camera body. Dust- and moisture-resistant gaskets and seals abound, giving the Mark III weather resistance equaling that of the highly-regarded EOS-1D X Mark II version.
A pair of smart controllers – one for horizontal shooting; the other for vertical have been built into the camera’s AF-ON buttons. They are shaped like traditional joysticks but behave more like miniature touchpads that can be used to scroll AF points around the screen.
Each controller is customised for sensitivity and speed and reacts intuitively even when you’re wearing gloves. The camera automatically disables the vertical controller when you’re shooting horizontally to avoid accidental movements.
Redesigned shutter for ultimate reliability and speed.
The shutter mechanism is totally new, designed not only for speed, but reliability even under harsh use. And
the mirror box, a vital component in a digital SLR, is likewise redesigned, enhancing not only speed, but AF accuracy
and even less viewfinder “black-out,” with its superb control of mirror movement and “bounce.”
The result? The entire camera — not just the shutter mechanism — has been durability-tested by Canon engineers to 500,000 exposures, the highest durability rating to date for a Canon EOS camera.
Enhanced DSLR Battery Life Advantage
The new DIGIC X processor at the heart of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III is not only powerful, but also efficient. In fact, with the supplied LP-E19 battery, the camera can deliver more than double the shooting time of the previous EOS-1D X Mark II, turning in roughly 2850 shots on a single charge using the same battery!
The Canon EOS-1D X Mark III is also compatible with older LP-E4N batteries, although the highest frame rate will be limited to 14fps.
Bright and Clear Optical Viewfinder
The Canon EOS-1D X Mark III’s optical viewfinder (OVF) is a joy to behold. Large, bright and clear – it lets you compose and shoot with instinct and intuition. It’s more comfortable to use over long periods of time than an EVF and gives you a real-time view of events that’s unaffected by electronic ‘lag’.
Stay connected, stay competitive
Whether you’re in an ethernet-equipped stadium, or transmitting pictures for deadline using Wi-Fi, the EOS-1D X Mark III keeps you ahead of the competition.
For the first time in an EOS-1D series camera, the Mark III version includes built-in Wi-Fi, for connection (without accessories) to compatible smartphones and tablets. This opens the door for event, wedding, wildlife, nature and even independent sports photographers to quickly share still and video files. But for the working professional, especially at major news and sports events, the EOS-1D X Mark III brings incredible network performance and capability. It starts with a built-in Ethernet port, compatible with Gigabit Ethernet. Or, with the optional Canon Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E9,* connect wirelessly to professional networks, with enhanced security, and ability to store and recall previous network settings and connections. A new Network menu tab keeps choices in one menu location, for quicker management. Finally, no accessory is needed on the Mark III for recording GPS location info — it’s built-in.
