Panasonic just keeps getting better with the new Lumix GF3Wednesday, July 13, 2011

Months after the GF2, Panasonic and digiDIRECT are pleased to announce the latest camera in the Micro Four Thirds system, the Panasonic Lumix GF3. Featuring everything you would want and expect in a traditional DSLR only in a lightweight and compact body with the addition of a built-in flash.

Just months after announcing the GF2, Panasonic and digiDIRECT are pleased to announce the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF3, the latest in the Micro Four Thirds system. The Lumix GF3 is the company’s smallest and lightest interchangeable lens camera with a built-in flash.

The Panasonic Lumix GF3 features everything you would find in a traditional DSLR interchangeable lens camera only in a lightweight and compact body that is simple to master. With a 16.7 per cent reduction in size compared to the GF2, the GF3 has lost the hotshoe but has gained a built-in flash.

The Lumix GF3 features the same 12.1 megapixel CMOS sensor as the GF2 but with a much faster processor for improved autofocusing. As the Panasonic GF3 is based on the Micro Four Thirds standard of lenses, which includes Panasonic’s 3D lens, it produces outstanding quality photos as well as the capability to shoot 3D still photos. The GF3 also provides a dedicated video button that can be used to switch to 1920 x 1080i High Definition Video with mono sound in AVCHD without changing modes.

With the GF3, Panasonic have created an extremely light compact system camera that is easy to use thanks to a large 3” touch LCD screen. It creates a traditional DSLR-like experience without the need for complicated external mode dials. While the DMC-GF3 has advanced features that would satisfy the experienced photographers, it is easy enough for beginners to use comfortably. Thanks to fantastic resolution, image rendering and colour reproduction, the Panasonic Lumix GF3 produces excellent high quality photos with true to life details.

The Panasonic GF3 boasts full sized DSLR like image quality thanks to the Venus Engine FHD image processor. The Venus Engine FHD makes images shot in low lit situations look stunningly clear as well as excelling in extending the battery life. The new Venus Engine FHD uses Intelligent Resolution technology to sharpen edge detail without softening fine detail. In addition to this, it offers Intelligent D-Range Control, which enables maximum capture of the images full range of brightness, without blown-out highlights and muddying shadows.

The Panasonic DMC-GF3 achieves popular colour effects using the Lumix Photo Style Mode. Colour effects include: Standard, Vivid, Natural, Monochrome, Scenery, Portrait and Custom. In addition to the Photo Style Mode, the Lumix GF3 has a Creative Control Mode. An expressive look to the photo can be achieved without the need for expensive complicated post-processing software. Effects include: Expressive, Retro, High Key, Sepia, High Dynamic and Miniature Effect.

For added ease of use, the Lumix GF3 features Panasonic’s new iA (Intelligent Auto) Plus mode, which is enabled automatically once the iA button is pressed. Panasonic’s iA features, such as Intelligent Resolution, MEGA O.I.S. (included in several lenses), Intelligent ISO Control, and Intelligent Scene Selector are available when shooting still images.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF3 coupled with either the Panasonic G Vario 14-42mm or Panasonic G 14mm lens, will start at a retail price of $772.00

Available in Black, Red and White.
