The Mega O.I.S. stabilization mechanism allows you to use slower shutter speeds, and the four aspherical lenses and ED (extra-low dispersion) LEICA lenses combine to deliver outstanding optical performance. The lens offers some direct competition to Canon, Nikon, Sigma and Tamron 18-200mm zooms, which also have image-stabilization technology. The low-noise lens design also seamlessly supports video recording by minimizing the mechanical sound generated by AF/AE actions.

The Panasonic/Leica D Vario-Elmar 14-150mm/F3.5-5.6 Asph. Mega O.I.S. Lens is a member of the Four-Thirds system. That means it can be used with DSLRs from Panasonic, Leica and Olympus. It also means its focal length is the equivalent of a 28-300mm on a 35mm film SLR camera.

The Leica 14-150 lens performance comes from the use of four aspherical lens elements with surfaces more geometrically complicated than a simple sphere and one with extra-low dispersion glass element. The use of such glass helps to guide different frequencies of light along the same path to minimize colored fringes and distortion.
