Canon CPE4 Battery Pack for Canon 580EX II Speedlite

This is a good choice for when you need a high-capacity, heavy-duty yet compact power source for the 580EX II. The CP-E4 is powered by 8 AA batteries of your choice and attaches to the flash with a cable. Note that you’ll still need a separate set of batteries in the flash unit itself.

When the 580EX II is in its default mode it will draw power from both sets of batteries. When using the CP-E4 You can use Custom Function 12 (for the Speedlite, not the camera) to set the 580EX II to draw power from the battery pack only. That way you retain a fully-charged set of internal batteries available if the pack runs low on power
